The Libraries and Museum Technology Working Group (LAM. TWG) Charter aim to define standards and help evolve applications that relate to the subject of Immersive Education. The purpose is the provide information regarding virtual worlds and the significant possibilities those virtual environments provide for educational benefits.
In the modern age of technological possibility, Libraries and Museum TWG make use of learning services transcending physical space. In traditional libraries one is dependent upon printed scripts, articles, and books in order to gain access to knowledge. However at Libraries and Museums TWG, virtual libraries and virtual museums provide education information through scripts and writing as well as three dimensional photos, videos, sound, animation, and virtual communication in a collaborative environment. All this is available to everyone, no matter where in the world one may be. The Libraries and Museum TWG work toward providing these new tools of education benefit at a location that knows no boundaries. Many people from all over the globe can now collaborate and educate virtually together.
The Libraries and Museums TWG do not aim to end the need for librarians, just to simply alter their roles and responsibilities. As time continues, technology improves and at a speed that seems to be shorter and shorter. The Libraries and Museums TWG require the need for librarians to continually update and alter provided resources and educational tools to reflect the time and technology.
The Chair Members of Libraries and Museums TWG are Jerome Yavarkovsky and Melissa A. Carrillo. The Libraries and Museum TWG is open to all members of the Immersive Education Initiative that have one of three criteria, experience with real-world libraries or museums, or experience with digital libraries or museums, or extensive experience developing or using virtual worlds, simulators, video games or full augmented or mixed reality.
